格勒诺布尔阿尔卑斯大学原格勒诺布尔大学联盟成立于2009年，于2014年12月29日改为现名。格勒诺布尔阿尔卑斯大学是罗纳-阿尔卑斯大区的大学与高等教育学院协会（Communauté
d'universités et
établissements），主要集中于格勒诺布尔、尚贝里、瓦朗斯及阿讷西四地。
格勒诺布尔阿尔卑斯大学的成员有格勒诺布尔第一大学（Université
de Grenoble 1 Joseph Fourier）、格勒诺布尔第二大学（Université
de Grenoble 2 Pierre Mendes France）、格勒诺布尔第三大学（Université
de Grenoble 3 Stendhal）、格勒诺布尔国立综合理工学院（Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble）、国立科学研究中心（Centre national de la recherche scientifique）及国立信息与自动化研究中心（Institut national de recherche en informatique et en automatique）。
