Lily Window Glass Co (Lily) is a glass manufacturer, which operates from a large production facility, where it undertakes continuous production 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Also on this site are two warehouses, where the company’s raw materials and finished goods are stored. Lily’s year end is 31 December.
Lily is finalising the arrangements for the year-end inventory count, which is to be undertaken on 31 December 2012. The finished windows are stored within 20 aisles of the first warehouse. The second warehouse is for large piles of raw materials, such as sand, used in the manufacture of glass. The following arrangements have been made for the inventory count:
The warehouse manager will supervise the count as he is most familiar with the inventory. There will be ten teams of counters and each team will contain two members of staff, one from the finance and one from the manufacturing department. None of the warehouse staff, other than the manager, will be involved in the count.
Each team will count an aisle of finished goods by counting up and then down each aisle. As this process is systematic, it is not felt that the team will need to flag areas once counted. Once the team has finished counting an aisle, they will hand in their sheets and be given a set for another aisle of the warehouse. In addition to the above, to assist with the inventory counting, there will be two teams of counters from the internal audit department and they will perform. inventory counts.
The count sheets are sequentially numbered, and the product codes and descriptions are printed on them but no quantities. If the counters identify any inventory which is not on their sheets, then they are to enter the item on a separate sheet, which is not numbered. Once all counting is complete, the sequence of the sheets is checked and any additional sheets are also handed in at this stage. All sheets are completed in ink.
Any damaged goods identified by the counters will be too heavy to move to a central location, hence they are to be left where they are but the counter is to make a note on the inventory sheets detailing the level of damage.
As Lily undertakes continuous production, there will continue to be movements of raw materials and finished goods in and out of the warehouse during the count. These will be kept to a minimum where possible.
The level of work-in-progress in the manufacturing plant is to be assessed by the warehouse manager. It is likely that this will be an immaterial balance. In addition, the raw materials quantities are to be approximated by measuring the height and width of the raw material piles. In the past this task has been undertaken by a specialist; however, the warehouse manager feels confident that he can perform. this task.
Required:
(a) For the inventory count arrangements of Lily Window Glass Co:
(i) Identify and explain SIX deficiencies; and
(ii) Provide a recommendation to address each deficiency.
The total marks will be split equally between each part (12 marks)
You are the audit senior of Daffodil & Co and are responsible for the audit of inventory for Lily. You will be attending the year-end inventory count on 31 December 2012.
In addition, your manager wishes to utilise computer-assisted audit techniques for the first time for controls and substantive testing in auditing Lily Window Glass Co’s inventory.
Required:
(b) Describe the procedures to be undertaken by the auditor DURING the inventory count of Lily Window Glass Co in order to gain sufficient appropriate audit evidence. (6 marks)
(c) For the audit of the inventory cycle and year-end inventory balance of Lily Window Glass Co:
(i) Describe FOUR audit procedures that could be carried out using computer-assisted audit techniques (CAATS);
(ii) Explain the potential advantages of using CAATs; and
(iii) Explain the potential disadvantages of using CAATs.
The total marks will be split equally between each part (12 marks)

(76)Apparently, many people believe that the more time a person spends at work, the more he or she accomplishes. When employers evaluate employees, they often consider the amount of time on the job in addition to job performance. Employees know this. Although many working people can do their job effectively during a regular 40-hour work week, they feel they have to spend more time on the job after normal working hours so that the people who can promote them see them.
A group of headhunters (猎头) were asked their opinion about a situation. They had a choice of two candidates for an executive position with an important company. The candidates had similar qualifications for the job.For example, they were both reliable. One could do the job well in a 40-hour work week. The other would do the Same job in an 80-hour work week just as well. According to a headhunting expert, the 80-hour-a-week candidate would get the job.The time this candidate spends on the job may encourage other employees to spend mote time at work, too. Employers believe that if the employees stay at work later, they may actually do more work.
However, the connection between time and productivity (生产率) is not always positive. (77) In fact, many studies indicate that after a certain point, anyone’s productivity and creativity begin to decrease. Some employees are not willing to spend so much extra, unproductive time at the office once they finish their work satisfactorily, they want to relax and enjoy themselves. For these people, the Solution is to find a company that encourages people to do both.
What is the main idea of this passage?
A.Many people work long hours but do not always do a lot of work.
B.Most people can get more work done by working longer hours.
C.Most Americans work 80 hours a week and some work even longer.
D.People can make more money by working longer hours.

Questions are based on the following passage.
Today, the poor aren "t just more likely to get divorced. They"re more likely to avoidmarriage entirely.
Earlier today, my colleague Derek Thompson argued that; it"s misleading to thinkof marriage as a "luxury good". Why? Because luxury goods are something the rich buyand the poor can"t afford. But in the case of marriage the trend is more complex. The vastmajority of Americans tie the knot at some point in their lives, he argues. It"s just thatthose without a college education are far, far more likely to get divorced. Marriage is foreveryone; failed marriages are for the poor.
Bleak stuff. But it"s getting bleaker.
Derek"s post is based on a long-term study of young Baby Boomers, who were atleast 46 years old by 2010. But among younger Americans, marriage really is lookingmore and more like something you"d have to buy at Tiffany"s. According to 2012 CensusBureau report, which shows the percentage of men who have never married by age andincome, the less a guy earns nowadays, the less likely they are to have ever gotten married.
Well, that"s not 100 percent true. Among twenty-somethings there seems to be arich bachelor effect going on (or an overworked young professional effect, if you prefer).
Those making $75,000 or more are somewhat less likely to have been married than thosemaking between $40,000 and $75,000.
This particular set of Census data unfortunately tells us much less about women andmarriage. The problem: Stay-at-home morns.
The key to remember, though, is that many educated, high-earuing women, the sortswho are likely to meet and marry educated and high-earning men, leave the workforce orgo part time once they have children. So a publicist who once made over $70,000 a yearmight only earn $20,000 if she decided to work fewer hours while caring for her childrenat home.
Here"s why this trend——not just the move towards divorce like Derek talked about, but the move from nuptials (婚礼 ) entirely——is so gloomy. Getting married, and stayingmarried, is one of the surest ways of securing a middle class life. By choosing not to wedin the first place, the poor are abandoning that chance at stability.
Why doesn‘t Derek Thompson think that marriage is a luxury good? 查看材料
A.Because not everyone will get married eventually.
B.Because only rich people can afford to get married.
C.Because most people will get married regardless of their financial state.
D.Because lots of people can"t afford an expensive nuptial.
